CamSextant allows users to take altitudes of celestial objects using their phone as a sextant. It offers a comprehensive celestial navigation solution, featuring an instrument, almanac, and celestial calculator. Simply point to a celestial object and tap the image to capture its altitude and time.

The app displays stars and planets in real time on the screen, showing constellation names and lines, and identifying planets and navigation stars from the Hipparchus 150 catalog. Additionally, it has the capability to audibly announce star names and altitudes.

Automatically calculating Astronomic Position (AP) with just two sights, CamSextant provides a straightforward process to determine your astronomical position with minimal clicks. Its perpetual nautical almanac uses Astronomical Algorithms as documented in the book by J. Meeus.

Users can easily view average time/altitude of altitude observations for the same object, and calibrate the sextant horizon by referencing the sea horizon altitude. It's important to note that CamSextant operates more as a bubble sextant, eliminating the necessity for a sea horizon. Nonetheless, users can fine-tune this calibration by saving corrections through the [Calibrate] button. The calibration angle is then deducted from the raw sensor reading.

For users who possess a marine sextant, CamSextant permits the editing of altitudes captured by the phone, enabling precise celestial navigation activities. The app offers translations in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese for both program texts and voice.
